The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy by Mike Ashley

The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy The Mammoth Book of Comic Fantasy by Mike Ashley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. Some stories were better than others. I primarily brought it for the short story by Terry Pratchett.
There are some good offerings notably:
Ruella in Love by Molly Brown
The Return of Mad Santa by Al Sarrantonio
Shoggoths Old Peculiar by Neil Gaiman
Although many of the stories did not make me laugh out loud, they were still highly amusing.

The Pumpkin Man by John Everson

The Pumpkin ManThe Pumpkin Man by John Everson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book although it's not the kind of book I usually read.
It is well written and the story flowed nicely.
It was not as scary as I thought it would be but there was definitely some creepy moments.
The plot line was good and I liked the whodunit aspect too.
If you like scary plots, witches, Halloween, blood, gore and suspense, then I highly recommend this book.

The path of the Storm by James Maxwell

The Path of the Storm (Evermen Saga, #3)The Path of the Storm by James Maxwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow wow wow, what can I say! The third instalment was just awesome.
Maxwell is a brilliant writer, giving depth to his characters and lots of details.
Some things might seem improbable, but so what! It is a fantasy book after all and I think some reviewers seem to forget that going by some of the negative critique I have read.
I absolutely loved this book and I am looking forward to reading the 4th instalment.

The Short Drop By Matthew FitzSimmons

The Short DropThe Short Drop by Matthew FitzSimmons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, what a fantastic début novel. A real page turner and I couldn't put it down. I did the classic 'just one more chapter', and then before I knew it, it was 7 am and I had stayed up all night until I had finished the book.
The writing is excellent and the characters are well defined and an intriguing plot line. I wouldn't go as far as saying that every chapter was action packed, but it didn't need to be because there was lots of suspense leaving you to want to read the next chapter to see what occurs.
I'm not going to go through the plot line as that is available in the synopsis and I believe a lot of reviewers give too much away and spoil it for potential readers.
I was lucky enough to purchase this for a £1 on pre-release but would of happily paid the £3.99, the book is riveting. I would love to see Gibson Vaughan surface in another novel :)

Under the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy

Under the Greenwood TreeUnder the Greenwood Tree by Thomas Hardy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This wan't my favourite book from Thomas Hardy.
It was a delight to read and Hardy does have a way with words. That said I did feel it lacked a little compared to some of his other works.
I would of liked to have read more about the musical activities.
Miss Fancy Day got on my nerves a little being so fickle but I warmed very much so to Mr Dick Dewy.
In essence, this is a love story more than anything else, but a very enjoyable read.

The Looney by Spike Milligan

The LooneyThe Looney by Spike Milligan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book was written in the 1980's and for today's standard, it is definitely politically incorrect in places, especially with the 'n****r' word. It is used in a humorous context. I think a lot of people who have not heard of Spike Milligan, may not get his humour.
The book was funny in places and lacking in other places. But generally I think the humour is pretty outdated now.

The Pocket Wife by Susan H Crawford

The Pocket WifeThe Pocket Wife by Susan H. Crawford
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have mixed feelings about this book. I felt that most of the characters were unlikable and shallow and there was not enough depth to them. I also didn't like some of the phrasing in the book either, although it did get better about half way through.
The story was pretty good and I did like Moss and Dana was portrayed pretty well but again I just felt that something was lacking.
The story opens quite well, with her neighbour and friend Celia, being murdered. Dana had been drinking with Celia a while beforehand and she is filled with turmoil as she can't remember whether she was the one who has killed Celia. Her mind already fragile, plummets to the depths and she unravels as the plot unfolds.

The Hidden Relic by James Maxwell

The Hidden Relic (Evermen Saga, #2)The Hidden Relic by James Maxwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this book, the second in the Everman Saga.
It is well written with lots of in depth characters and is a real page turner.
I was transported to a world that I did not want to leave when the book finished.
This is certainly a tale of epic proportions and I look forward to reading book 3.
